Job Description – Pharmacy Technician

Retail Setting

We are currently seeking a full or part time Pharmacy Technician. Depending on performance, there is room for growth including additional hours, professional certification, and more.

Job Summary

Pharmacy technicians work alongside our pharmacists to help retrieve, prepare, and distribute prescription medications. In many cases you will be the first point of contact for our patients and their caregivers, acting as a liaison between the public and our team. You will have the opportunity to shape unique customer experiences, which is the most important element to our organization.

Whether you are new to pharmacy or bringing some level of experience, we provide the education and training so that you can grow professionally while staying up to date with innovative ways to care for our patient population. All new technicians will be required to go through our extensive training program and satisfy all Pennsylvania registration, licensing, and certification requirements.

Routine Job Functions

  • Communicate with patients both in person and over the phone regarding their prescription medications and over the counter healthcare needs.
  • Understand and follow applicable federal and state laws, regulations, professional standards, and ethical principles.
  • Restock medications as they arrive from various vendors.
  • Restock and maintain robotic dispensing equipment.
  • Count medications and package them accordingly.
  • Sort counted medications into the appropriate areas depending on priority level and patient delivery method.
  • Process patient refill requests.
  • Enter new prescriptions presented by patients or received electronically into our pharmacy dispensing software.
  • Label and organize hard copy prescriptions.
  • Order medications as needed.
  • Reorder supplies as needed.
  • Assist customers picking up medications by completing transactions at our point of sale system.

Job Skills

· Customer Service: Each day you will be talking to customers and healthcare professionals, answering questions and relaying information. We absolutely pride ourselves on our level of care, so you will need to be a good listener and maintain a pleasant and cheerful manner with our patients.

· Organization: You will have several responsibilities, and you should be able to balance duties and maintain accuracy.

· Attention to Detail: Verifying and counting prescription medication, inputting prescriptions, and process patient request all require close attention be paid to detail to ensure accuracy.

Required Qualifications

· High school diploma or equivalent

Preferred Qualifications

· Previous experience in a pharmacy, retail, or customer service setting

· Previous experience as a pharmacy technician

· National Certification from an accredited pharmacy technician certification program approved by specific state regulations (e.g. ExCPT, PTCB, etc.)
